I had an adult literacy student who was dyslexic. She had problems with decoding and reading comprehension. I found her interests helped me teach her. Since she liked to write I had her writing journals in the beginning of class. She enjoyed reading short passages and answering questions about what she read. Now she reads for pleasure. Earlier she struggled at reading. She enjoys Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. She improved her writing and her reading by practicing.
